Built in 2003 on a lovely street in Lincoln Park and home to a family of four. This newly constructed brownstone was the homeowner’s first home in the city. The brick and limestone façade offered a very elegant appearance. The homeowners wanted to carry the timeless, sophisticated elegance throughout their home while being practical in their selections of finishes and materials.
The Great Room is an architecturally beautiful room with high-coffered ceiling, arched windows and French doors, which open to the patio. This room was designed to serve as a gathering room for family and friends. It needed to feel intimate when the family of four sat together to watch television yet it also needed to expand when the family entertained their many friends.
I took my design inspiration from the graceful line of the arched windows. I introduced soft curves on the silhouette of the main furniture pieces. I selected a calm blue-gray, burnt gold and cream color palette to compliment the Indian artwork highlighted above the sofa. Different textures were selected for the upholstered pieces to create interest within the calm color palette. The fabrics selected are timeless and sophisticated yet offer a “user friendly” quality. The pedestal table with four chairs provides additional seating as well as a place to do homework.
